After capturing Pope Julius II's galleys, he earned the name "Red-Beard" and became a legendary figure. His brother Kheyr-ed-din continued his legacy, securing Ottoman support to expand corsair dominance. The corsairs' empire reached its height as they captured ships, enslaved Christians, and demanded tribute from European nations. Their reign ended when European powers finally united against them, leading to the French conquest of Algiers in 1830.
