The sophisticated society they built, with its libraries, mosques, and intellectual achievements, contrasted sharply with the often brutal rule of their Christian adversaries. The eventual fall of Granada in 1492 marked the end of Moorish rule, followed by the expulsion of Moriscos that would shape Spain's future.
