Saving Livingstone

A historical account of the 1871-1872 search for Dr. David Livingstone in Central Africa.

In 1871, a young American journalist named Henry M. Stanley received a commission from the New York Herald to locate Dr. David Livingstone, the legendary African explorer believed to be lost in Central Africa. Setting out from Zanzibar with a small expedition, Stanley embarked on a perilous journey through East Africa, navigating treacherous terrain, hostile tribes, and deadly diseases. His mission was to find Livingstone, who had been missing for years, and bring back news of his discoveries. Stanley's expedition faced constant challenges as they traveled from Bagamoyo to Unyanyembe, encountering war-torn regions and navigating through dense forests. The journey tested his leadership, endurance, and resolve as he pushed his men through swamps, mountains, and villages where local tribes demanded tribute. As Stanley approached Ujiji, he prepared for the moment that would define his career and change the course of African exploration.
