In Arizona's rugged Four Peaks country, a quiet former college student has taken a job as superintendent of a cattle ranch. He's a skilled rider and poet, but he refuses to drink or smoke, making him an oddity in the frontier town of Bender. When sheepmen begin threatening the ranch's grazing lands, he must choose between his principles and the violent reality of the open range. As the river swells and the sheep approach, he finds himself at the center of a conflict that will test his courage and heart. The land is divided between cattlemen and sheepherders, and the stakes are higher than ever.
