Dallas Lancaster's family has staked a claim on a bend of the Missouri River in Dakota Territory, but their future is threatened when a railroad survey line approaches. As winter looms, Dallas must protect her family's land while navigating dangerous encounters with Native Americans and a mysterious stranger who brings news of the railroad's arrival. With her father's health failing and her sister's health deteriorating, Dallas faces impossible choices as the threat of losing everything grows closer with each passing day.
